MaxMobile brings Microsoft Lync to your smartphone.

Make and recieve Lync calls and Instant Messages as if you were at your desk. Browse the Corporate Directory in search of a contact or check your Favorites List to see the presence & status of your coworkers. Update your status on the fly. It's that simple.

Connection and Login

What does the icon in the top with the red image mean?

If you see the red icons in the title bar, or if you cannot log out, MaxMobile has lost the connection to the server. The application will automatically try to reconnect to the Lync server. If, after a few minutes, it fails to reconnect, close the MaxMobile application and then restart it. If restarting does not resolve the issue, please contact your administrator.

I am not receiving calls. What should I do?

If you discover after logging in that you cannot receive MaxMobile calls, or you see an error icon in the MaxMobile title, try to log out or close MaxMobile, then re-open it.

I cannot log in and my company has changed some MaxMobile settings. What should I do?

If you cannot log in because the IP address for your company's phone server has changed, go into your phone's settings and bring the MaxMobile settings up to date, then try to log in again.

Why do I see "Unable to access Voicemail" when I try to log in?

If the administrator changes your password in Active Directory, you will see an error message, "Unable to access voicemail," for a few minutes, until the change takes effect.

Instant Messaging

What happens if I send an IM to a contact who has a Lync status "Do Not Disturb?"

If you send an IM to a user whose status is set to DND (Do Not Disturb), the message will not be delivered, and you will not receive notification that the delivery failed.

However, if you have an active IM thread with a user who changes to DND status, messages will continue to be delivered until the DND user signs out of MaxMobile and signs back in. After that, DND mode will take effect and no IMs will be delivered.

How do I switch an IM conversation from my phone to Lync on my computer?

To move an IM session from MaxMobile (iPhone) to your Windows Lync client on your computer, switch to Lync on your computer and send an IM to that contact. Subsequent messages will be directed to the Windows Lync client instead of MaxMobile.

I set "Deliver all IMs to this device" to Off. Why do some IMs still go to my iPhone?

This setting only affects subsequent messages in an IM thread; initial messages from a contact will still be delivered to all active Lync devices.

Conference Calling

What happens if I put a conference call on hold?

When a participant places a conference call on hold, MaxMobile still shows that participant as Connected. The other participants will not see a Hold status.

I tried to initiate a conference call, but it does not work. Why?

When you try to add a contact to a conference call by selecting Join, MaxMobile will not be able to set up the conference. Use the other method of starting a conference call:
1. Choose a connected call and select Conference.
2. Call the next participant. You can talk to that person as needed.
3. Select Conference again. The new party joins the conference.
4. Repeat this process to add other participants to the conference.

Why am I unable to conference the same number more than once?

You cannot conference in the same phone number twice; this is not currently supported.

Why am I unable to conference another outside number?

Currently, when a conference includes two outside numbers, if one of those numbers is released from the conference, no other outside number can be added.

Calling

What happens if I turn off my phone during a call?

When a MaxMobile user turns off the phone during a call to another MaxMobile phone, the other party will not be notified that the call has ended.

Why won't my call go through?

When you place a call to a contact who is not logged into MaxMobile, if that contact does not have a voicemail mailbox set up, you may not see information on the Call screen. The call will not go through.

What happens if I answer a call in my computer's Lync window?

If you answer an incoming call with the Windows Lync client instead of on your phone's MaxMobile client, then your phone might notify you that you missed the call.

Someone called and hung up before I could answer. Why don't I see this call in the Call Log screen?

When a PSTN call comes in, if the caller hangs up before you answer, you will not see a record of the call in your Call log. This is because MaxMobile has no way of tracking PSTN calls that are not answered.

General

I tried to change my Lync Presence, but it will not update. Why?

If your Lync Presence will not update, a MaxMobile server may have been restarted. Log out of MaxMobile and then log back in again.

iPhone Specific

Audio

Why did I lose the sound on my MaxMobile phone call?

To avoid losing audio on a call, we recommend that you avoid switching to any other application or taking PSTN calls while on a MaxMobile VoIP call. Here are cases where you might lose the audio on a phone call:

• If MaxMobile was in the background and an audio event occurred, such as an alarm, an alert, or an incoming iPhone call, when you return to the MaxMobile call, you may not hear the other party (yet the call still shows as "Connected"). Tap the Speaker / Bluetooth button (switch the call to a different audio path) to try to regain the voice stream.

• While on a VoIP call, if you walk around and move between two different networks (for example, from 3G to Wi-Fi), you may lose your voice stream.

• If you plan to travel outside of your Wi-Fi range, go into your iPhone settings and disable the Wi-Fi setting before you place your call.

• While on a VoIP call, if a PSTN cell phone call comes in, you may momentarily lose the voice stream on the call while you tap Decline.

Why can I not adjust the volume of alerts?

While you are in MaxMobile, pressing the Volume keys on your iPhone will only raise or lower the volume of the audio on a call. They will not adjust the volume of alerts or ringtones.

Does changing my MaxMobile audio device change it for my iPhone?

Changing the audio path in MaxMobile may not automatically change the audio path for incoming iPhone calls.

Bluetooth

We recommend that you connect only one Bluetooth device to your iPhone. In addition, if your iPhone is on iOS4, we suggest that you do not change audio paths during a call or while listening to voicemail (in other words, avoid switching from handset to Bluetooth or vice versa).

How do I move the voice path from my Bluetooth earpiece to the handset?

In the MaxMobile call screen, tap the audio path button to rotate among the various devices (Speaker, Handset, Bluetooth device, etc.). Some tips:

• If you do not see your Bluetooth device as a choice, turn that device off, then back on again.

• If your iPhone is running on iOS4, while on a call you can switch from one audio device to another, as needed.

• For iOS5 iPhones, if you do not see the choices Handset and Speaker, turn off your Bluetooth device and/or unplug your earpiece.

My Bluetooth device is not in my iPhone audio list anymore. How do I recover it?

If you find that the Bluetooth device has vanished from your audio selections, try these tips to recover the connection:

• Send MaxMobile to the background, listen to your iPhone voicemail and choose Bluetooth from there

• Switch to the speaker or the handset, then try to reselect the Bluetooth device

• On the iPhone, turn off Bluetooth (in Settings) and then turn it on again and reconnect

• Turn your Bluetooth device off, then turn it on again

Why did the audio path switch to the handset?

There are a few cases where the audio might appear to switch to a different path:

• If you try to connect to a Bluetooth headset (through the iPhone settings) while a call is coming in, then the audio may be diverted to the handset or speaker.

• In some cases, a call will ring on the iPhone speaker even when you have the audio source set to a Bluetooth device. This occurs primarily when you have MaxMobile in the background and are in a different application.

• If you choose to listen to voicemail messages on a Bluetooth device, if a call comes in during the message playback, then you must choose that Bluetooth device to answer the call.

Calling

Why did I hear my music and a MaxMobile call ring at the same time?

In some cases, while you have music playing on your iPhone, if a MaxMobile call comes in, you may hear both the music and the ringing.

What happens when two calls come in at the same time?

If two calls come in at the same time, you must answer the first call listed in the Call screen first.

I did not notice a call coming in. Why?

If a call comes in while you are viewing the list of active apps, you will not see or hear the incoming call.

I declined an incoming call. Why does the call show as "Connected?"

If you decline a call, the call status may still show connected while MaxMobile redirects the call to voicemail.

Why does the Call screen say just "Ring" when some calls come in?

Occasionally, incoming PSTN calls will display as 'Ring' on the Call screen for several seconds before showing you the number of the incoming phone call.

General

How can I force MaxMobile to close?

In various scenarios, you may need to force MaxMobile to close and then restart it. Follow the same process as you would with any iPhone application:

1. Double-press the iPhone Home button.
2. In the list of recently used applications, tap and hold the MaxMobile icon until the red minus sign appears.
1. Tap the red minus sign to close the MaxMobile application.
4. Press the iPhone Home button twice to return to the main screen.
5. Restart MaxMobile.

If a call comes in while you are viewing the list of active apps, you will not see or hear the incoming call.

I switched to a different iPhone, and now my Favorites are missing. Why?

Favorites are saved on the phone, not on the MaxMobile server. If you switch phones, you will need to set up your Favorites list again on the new device.

An incoming call was automatically answered. Why?

On iOS5 phones, MaxMobile may automatically answer an incoming call.
This can occur if you have MaxMobile open and have pulled down the iPhone notifications bar to open the notifications screen. While that screen is open, MaxMobile may automatically answer incoming calls.

BlackBerry Specific

Install

I uninstalled MaxMobile and then reinstalled it. Why do I still see the original login settings?

Login settings for Blackberry devices are not removed when you uninstall the application.
