FREMONT, Calif., June 26 -- AltiGen® Communications, Inc. a pioneering manufacturer of VoIP business phone systems and call center solutions, announced today that it has been awarded U.S. Patent No. 7,058,047 for technology related to the automatic capturing of computer network call-back data used for improved telephone messaging.
Typically, when users retrieve their voice mail messages, the caller leaves a message and a number they can be reached at, also known as a callback number. When the user wants to return that call, the user must scribble down the callback number on a piece of paper and return the caller's call. When the user has a great number of messages to return, these scraps of paper can get shuffled around or lost. As a result, the user may not be able to return the message. Even if the user can find the number, he/she must manually dial it.
The solution to reduce the need for voicemail users to write down callback numbers left in their mailboxes has been through the use of callback technology. AltiGen Communications, the assignee of the present invention is one of the pioneering companies in the area of callback technology. Pioneered by AltiGen Communications, principles of computer telephony are now being adapted for telecommunications systems utilizing computer networks for the transmission of data. This patent outlines the automatic capturing of the caller's call-back data, such as an IP address, and allowing the user of the telecommunications system to automatically return the missed caller's call without the need for listening or writing down the caller's callback information.
"This invention is an important addition to our existing patent portfolio, demonstrating AltiGen's track record of innovation in the communications industry," said AltiGen CEO Gilbert Hu. "Our commitment to bringing useful and productivity enhancing features to our customers is an important part of AltiGen's continued success."
This patent, awarded on June 6, 2006, is the latest addition to AltiGen Communications' existing portfolio of 12 other U.S. patents including other automated caller callback methods and a Computer Network-based Auto Attendant method allowing for geographically dispersed multi-location systems to share auto attendant and IVR information over data networks.
